McPHERSON, Kan. — The McPherson Board of Public Utilities Monday approved a change in the rate structure for several customer classes, effective April 1.
BPU General Manager Josh Bedel said the change involves going from a two-part rate to a three-part rate with the addition of a demand charge which information was sent out on a couple of months ago.
This change also involves a reduction in the energy charge part of bills, which will make it revenue neutral for BPU. This affects residential, residential all-electric, general service small, commercial all-electric and McPherson Municipal rate classes.
Connected with this the BPU Board also voted to discontinue an opt-out provision from automatic meter reading as of March 31.
Along with updates on ongoing projects Bedel said the BPU’s generator units were switched from natural gas to fuel oil, which they will operate on for the rest of the week.
