RENO COUNTY, Kan. — MaKayla Michael was chosen as Reno County Youth Services Employee of the Year.

Youth Services’ supervisors and members of administration choose vote for the people chosen as Employees of the Month throughout the year and from that group of people an Employee of the Year is chosen. MaKayla was chosen as Employee of the Month twice in 2024. She has been employed with the county since December 2022.
On MaKayla’s first day back from maternity leave, she began her new position as First Shift Shelter Supervisor, replacing Halee Bonebright who is now the Office Manager at Youth Services.

“MaKayla goes above and beyond with her daily job duties. She has worked one-on-one with youth that struggle with various problems and has created programs that help keep youth on track,” said Halee Bonebright. “She takes the initiative to ensure the facility is tidy and clean and often cooks for the facility when there are no cooks available. She has helped train multiple new staff and has a good grasp on the routine and program. This has earned her the title and responsibility of Lead Staff.

MaKayla genuinely enjoys spending time with the youth, and it can be seen in everything she does. On Christmas, she came in to do a White Elephant with the Shelter youth, and even brings handmade decorations for holidays, such as wreaths and other décor, to help make the Shelter feel more like a “home.” She comes up with activities for the youth to do and did a wonderful job coming up with activities to do over the summer break.

She puts the youths’ safety and care as top priority. Her calm demeanor is present during all situations, and this has earned her the respect of both the youth and her coworkers. Congratulations, MaKayla! We are so fortunate to have you on our team!”
