HERINGTON, Kan. — Herington Municipal Hospital announced to staff on Monday, Oct. 9, the closure of the hospital. Along with its associated clinics, the hospital will close as soon as Wednesday, Oct. 11.
The decision was made due to lengthy financial struggles and consistently low patient volumes according to WIBW TV.
The nearest hospital for Herington residents will now be 25 miles away in Junction City, Marion or Council Grove.
WIBW shared that medical records will continue to be maintained at the facility and people will be able to access them through the end of the week. It was also shared today that the closure of the hospital will not impede Herington EMS.
