HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate over the weekend at Hutchinson Correctional Facility.

The Kansas Department of Corrections said 57-year-old Lamoine Wiebe was found unresponsive in his cell at HCF’s Central Unit Saturday morning at which point staff began lifesaving measures that continued after EMS arrived that were ultimately unsuccessful.

Wiebe was serving a 233-month prison sentence for voluntary manslaughter in the 2011 death of his father whose body was found in a 5th wheel trailer stored inside a building near Sedgwick.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death. Per protocol, the KBI is brought in anytime there is a death of a person in custody.
