HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The .35 percent sales tax for the Sports Arena renovation could come to an end by September, 2024. On July 18, the Hutchinson City Council approved the redemption of the Sports Arena portion of a 2015 bond issue and part of the 2016 bonds totaling three million dollars.
Finance Director Angela Richard said if sales tax collections stay at current levels, the remaining bonds should be paid off between July and September, 2024.
Under terms of the 2015 election, the sales tax ends once sufficient revenue has been raised to pay off the 27.4 million dollars in bonds issued for the project. Any funds left over will be set aside for future maintenance of the Sports Arena.
