HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Fire Department responded to 18 emergency incidents yesterday that included two significant fires. Just after noon yesterday, the department was called for a car fire on Osborne and Plum. First arriving units found a vehicle and camper involved with heavy fire and upgraded the alarm to a structure fire response. Additionally, crews worked to save a large garage just four feet away from the main fire. Fire crews were able to save the garage, however the vehicle and camper were lost in the fire. No injuries were reported.

Then, around 1 a.m. this morning, Hutchinson Fire was called out for a structure fire on south Loraine street. This was a mutual aid call with fire district 8. Thick fog at that time made it difficult for the fire unit to get there. First arriving units found fire venting from the roof in a residential home. Crews working in joint operations with district 8 were able to bring this fire under control in a timely fashion. No injuries were reported, and the occupant was able to escape on his own. The fire remains under investigation.

The department would like to thank the Hutchinson Police department, Reno Sheriff department, Reno County 911 center, Kansas Gas, Reno EMS, and Evergy.
