Hutchinson Community Foundation Annual Scholarship Application Period Now Open

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Community Foundation is encouraging qualifying high school seniors to begin applying for scholarships administered annually.

The deadline to apply for the following scholarships is noon, March 28.

Denny Hart Family Athletic Scholarship
  • This scholarship is open to any Reno County graduating senior.
  • A $1,000 scholarship and a $500 scholarship will be awarded for the fall semester of the recipients’ freshman year at any accredited college or university. The award was established by the family of Denny Hart in honor of his commitment to a “behind the scenes” approach to helping young people. 
  • The ideal applicant is involved in athletics, demonstrates a clear commitment to community through involvement in activities outside the classroom, demonstrates financial need and has a minimum GPA of 3.0.
Family Readiness Group 1st BN 161st FA Scholarship
  • Assists students who are the children and grandchildren of members of the 1st Battalion 161st Field Artillery Group or a descendant of someone who served at least one year in the 1st Battalion 161st Field Artillery Group.
  • This $1,000 scholarship is open to Reno County high school seniors, as well as those graduating from Dodge City, Kingman, Pratt and Garden City high schools, who meet the eligibility requirements stated in the guidelines.
Hutchinson News Future Journalist Scholarship
  • Open to high school seniors graduating from a school in The Hutchinson News coverage area.
  • Candidates must be enrolled, or plan to enroll, in a journalism, photojournalism or communications program at an accredited college or university. Preference given to journalism students.
  • Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and submit materials listed in the guidelines.
  • Two scholarships will be awarded: A $2,000 winner, and a $1,000 runner-up.
Lois and Avory Johnson Scholarship for Reno County Students
  • For Reno County Students is open to seniors who are graduating from a Reno County high school and will be attending any certified institution of higher learning, including trade and vocational schools, beginning in the fall semester.
  • Applicants should display academic ability and/or personal motivation to achieve goals, involvement in school, church or community activities or have been employed while still achieving academic success. Students pursuing any career may apply, but students entering the filed of Emergency Medical Services will be given preference.
  • Ten scholarships are awarded annually. Each award is $2,000 ($1,000 per year for two years).
Myrtle F. & M. Eugene Hobson Memorial Fund for Nursing Education
  • For Nursing Education awards a $1,000 annual scholarship to one student graduating from Fairfield High School, Kingman High School or St. John High School and is enrolling in a nursing or health care related program.
  • The successful applicant should also demonstrate a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA and a strong work ethic and drive to reach personal goals.
