HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The Hutchinson City Council is once again at five members following Tuesday’s swearing-in of Stuart Conklin and Stacy Goss

Conklin, associated for many years with his family’s auto dealerships, will fill the Northeast District position Jade Piros de Carvalho left last month when she relocated in connection with her current job as Broadband Coordinator for the Kansas Department of Commerce.

Goss, who works for Hospice and Homecare of Reno County, fills the At-Large Council position Sara Bagwell resigned from in December.

Both of these positions are up for election this year as is the Southeast District seat now held by Steven Garza.

Changes in Council districts, based on 2020 census data, were also approved. The changes will impact part of one precinct and all of one other.

One of the adjustments is related to Precinct 13 which is the area between Main and Plum Streets from State Fair Road to 14th Avenue. When Kansas House Districts were re-drawn, Precinct 13 was split between the 102nd and 104th House Districts. The part of the precinct south of 17th Avenue and in House District 102 was moved from the Northwest to the Southwest District.

The other change involves Precinct 21, which is the area from 11th to 17th Avenues and between Plum and Severance Streets. It was moved from the Northeast to the Southeast District.
