HAYS, Kan. — The Hispanic College Institute, a free, four-day three-night residential program, is returning to Fort Hays State University June 4-7.

The program is open to the current class of 2026 and 2027 high school students with a 2.5 GPA or above and provides students with practical college application and financial aid information, allowing them to engage with successful Hispanic role models who will help provide information about educational opportunities.

During HCI, students will learn about the importance of going to college and the admission process, improve public speaking, presentation, and interview skills, learn how to navigate FAFSA applications, engage with Hispanic leaders and mentors to discover how they made their college/career choices, meet with FHSU admissions and financial aid representatives, and compete for a variety of scholarships.

Since it is a residential program, students will also be living in a traditional residence hall on the campus. There will be separate wings for male and female students with restricted access to both with shared common areas. Each room will be shared by two students. See more information about the residential halls at fhsu.edu/reslife.

Food, transportation and lodging free of charge will be provided by the program, although students will need to bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, and toiletry items.

The application deadline is May 1. Applications are reviewed by the HCI Committee, who will notify all students accepted no later than May 21.

If you are interested in the program, contact Hugo Perez at hci@fhsu.edu or 785-628-4020.
