GREAT BEND, Kan. — Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark released a statement to the public today with information regarding increased police presence at the Great Bend Middle School.
“This measure is being taken as part of our commitment to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the community,” Chief Haulmark said. “We are actively investigating a potential threat involving three students, which was discovered last night. At this time, our investigation has revealed that the threat was made out of malicious intent to disrupt the school day and avoid attending classes.”
After a thorough review, it has been determined that the threat is not credible according to Chief Haulmark. However, the students involved will be taken into custody and it was stated that appropriate actions will be taken.
“The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to take all necessary measures to maintain a safe environment,” Chief Haulmark stated.
As the investigation continues, the Great Bend Police Department requests that no misinformation is spread. Further updates will be provided as necessary.
“We thank the community for their vigilance and cooperation during this time,” Chief Haulmark said.
