HUTCHINSON, Kan. — An early morning fire west of Hutchinson destroyed a garage and camper and heavily damaged a home.
Hutchinson Fire units along with those from Fire Districts 3 and 8 were called at 1:19 AM to the 1600 block of North Wilson Road, where on arrival there was heavy fire involvement to a single-story home and full involvement on a detached garage and a 28-foot camper.
Crews started a defensive fire attack with rural water supply operations initiated involving mutual aid water tenders.
A vent enter search of survivable space in the home was made initially with a full search undertaken after the fire was mostly knocked down. Nobody was there at the time.
The camper and garage were listed as a total loss, with about 70 percent of the home damaged. The cause of the fire is under investigation and wind was reported to be a significant factor in fire behavior.
