KIOWA COUNTY, Kan. — A chase that led to a fatal accident in southwest Kansas Saturday night has been linked to a homicide investigation in Anderson County.
According to information from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies had made a welfare check at a residence in the 300 block of 1st street Kincaid Thursday, where they found 36-year-old Sheila Kendall dead.
An investigation that also involved Garnett Police and the Coffey County Sheriff’s Department led to the death being ruled a homicide.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said they had attempted to stop a reported stolen vehicle on US 54 west of Greensburg Saturday night when it took off. About a mile west of Greensburg the car went off the highway, hit a field entrance and went airborne, rolling several times before coming to rest. The driver, identified as Jerry Thompson, 55, of Tidewater, Oregon, was pronounced dead at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital.
Thompson, who owned the residence in Kincaid where the body of Kendall was found, was identified as a person of interest and an arrest warrant was obtained by the Anderson County Attorney.
