Customers can report and track outages using the Evergy mobile app

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Today is the first day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week (March 3-7). The Evergy service area experiences a wide variety of severe weather during the spring and summer seasons including tornadoes, damaging winds, large hail and flash flooding.

Customer preparation
Evergy encourages customers to be prepared. With safety being a priority during severe weather, Evergy offers the following tips so customers can be ready for spring storm season.

  • Download Evergy’s mobile app to easily report outages. The app is available for download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
  • Check your communications preferences in your Evergy online account. Evergy sends emails and text messages to share information about severe weather and outages with customers.
  • Assemble an emergency kit for your home, workplace and vehicle in an easy-to-carry container or bag stocked with:

º Water

º Non-perishable food

º Prescription medications

º Fresh batteries

º Battery-powered radio

º Flashlight

º First-aid kit

º Cell phone charger or power bank

  • Keep cell phones and other necessary electronics charged.
  • Establish a shelter plan with your family, so everyone knows where to go in the event of severe weather. If you have family, friends or neighbors who live alone or are elderly, establish a communication plan to check on their wellbeing. If you know it’s not safe for you or another member of your household to wait for power to be restored, have a plan to go someplace safe.
  • If you rely on electronic medical equipment, have a plan in case a large storm causes extended outages.
  • If you see a downed line, stay at least 30 feet away from it. Assume all downed lines are energized. Report downed lines to Evergy at evergy.com/powerlinesafety. In an emergency, notify 911.

Customers can report or confirm outages at evergy.com/outages. You can also track outages via Evergy’s outage map. To view a complete list of severe weather safety tips, please visit Evergy’s severe weather safety website.

Evergy preparation

Evergy monitors weather conditions and staffs crews accordingly, so we’re ready to respond to outages as quickly as we safely can. Depending on the severity of the forecast, we may request additional assistance before the weather arrives. Our tree trimming program also works throughout the year to keep tree limbs cut away from power lines, which helps reduce outages during severe weather.

Severe Weather Preparedness Week activities

The National Weather Service will conduct a tornado drill Wednesday, March 5 at 10 a.m. in Kansas and 11 a.m. in Missouri. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the drill by practicing seeking secure, safe shelter from a tornado.
