HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson firefighters were called out about 2 AM Christmas morning to the 700 block of East 10th on the report of a structure fire.
Battalion Chief Chad Allen said on arrival crews didn’t find anything visible on the outside, but when they entered, they encountered light smoke.
Further investigation found an issue with the furnace that caused smoldering of the interior wall framing. The wall was then exposed and the smoldering was dealt with.
No injuries were reported.
Chief Allen said this is a great reminder to keep proper clearance around heating equipment including space heaters, and to make sure HVAC systems are regularly maintained.
