LYONS, Kan. — The USD 405 Endowment Association’s Lyons Schools Hall of Fame will induct a new member Monday evening, one familiar to area sports fans.

Doug Higgins is being inducted as a contributor to Lyons schools at a ceremony to take place prior to Monday evening’s Lyons-Minneapolis basketball games which begin at 6. There will also be a reception from 4-5 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria.

Higgins spent 26 years as a teacher and administrator in USD 405, retiring in 2013. He taught for nine years in Fredonia before coming to Lyons.

Since 2015 he’s been the voice of the Lyons Lions for Ad Astra Radio, and in addition has also handled coverage for other schools including state tournament games for football, basketball, baseball and softball.

In January, Higgins concluded eight years of service on the Lyons City Council, including a brief stint as acting Council president.
