BUHLER, Kan. – “If there was an angel on earth, it would be her.”

That is how Buhler Grade School teacher Carla Goertzen is described by local business owner and Buhler Chamber of Commerce representative Shelly Bartel. The chamber is partnering with local businesses to organize a raffle fundraiser to assist Goertzen in getting a new prosthetic leg.

“Her husband Stuart has a business in Buhler, and we felt this is something that we needed to do for her,” Bartel told Ad Astra Radio.

Goertzen continues her recovery from a rare form of bone cancer, which doctors found in her left knee.

A tailgate package valued at over $2,000 is being raffled to raise funds. It features a 36” flat top grill, several Kansas City Chiefs-themed items, an indoor/outdoor heater, Wind Surge and Hutch Putt passes, a one-month membership to the Buhler Wellness Center, an oil change and detail, several gift certificates, and more.

A full list of items can be found on the Buhler Chamber of Commerce Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BuhlerChamber.

Goertzen says aspires to run again one day and that the support shown to her family has been very humbling. “Just been overwhelmed over and over,” said Goertzen.

Tickets are $20 each or six for $100 and can be purchased at nearly every business in Buhler. You can also contact Shelly Bartel at (620) 543-6767 and she can handle credit card purchases, or Venmo is available as a payment option through the Buhler Chamber. Only 1,000 tickets will be sold.

The winner of the raffle package will be announced on July 9th during Buhler Night at the Hutchinson Monarchs game. You need not be present to win.
