City of Lyons Hires New City Clerk, to Begin Role April 14

LYONS, Kan. — The City of Lyons has a new City Clerk. Bailey Saylor, whose appointment by Mayor Alicia Hommon was approved by the City Council last night, will begin her new duties April 14th, succeeding Gayla Horsch who retired last month.

Saylor recently moved to the area from Seward, Alaska where she served as their director of Library and Museum in which she managed a large budget and oversaw financial operations. She was also successful in obtaining many grants and developing many partnerships

Prior work experience includes owning a bakery and working as a communications officer for the Parker County Sheriff’s Office in Weatherford, Texas. She holds an Associate of Science Degree from Barton Community College and Bachelor of Arts in interdisciplinary studies with a minor in business from the University of Fairbanks, Alaska.

City Administrator Troy Houtman said some 80 applications were received for the position, six of which were considered strong applications, with two finalists brought in for interviews. Speaking about Saylor, Houtman said, “With her background in municipal government and foundation of financial operations, she was our top candidate to help our team meet the many challenges that our team will face in the near future.”

As a side note to this, Bailey Saylor’s hiring took place on her Birthday.
