Change in Format for Commission Meetings

By the City of McPherson

McPHERSON, Kan. — Beginning with its Feb. 6, 2024, meeting, the City of McPherson will reorganize its weekly City Commission and Commission Study Session meetings. The format will resemble its operation in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic warranted temporary changes.

During that time, a need for more space and a digital attendee option required the use of the commission chambers to conduct all business. And in order to limit meeting time, the commission and study sessions were conducted as one.

The re-visited format — as it was prior to 2020 — will see the Commission meet for its regularly-scheduled 8:30 a.m. meeting each Tuesday, where action items will be presented for Commission vote and/or discussion. The meeting is broadcast live via the City’s Facebook page.

The Commission then will adjourn for a short break and reconvene in the City board room for a weekly work session, presentation and/or roundtable discussion of non-action business or budget items to be brought forward later for Commission approval.

All meetings where more than one commissioner is present are open to the public, and those wishing to bring up topics for discussion at either are welcome. The weekly agenda for the Commission meetings and study sessions are published prior to each meeting and the minutes of each City Commission meeting are published upon approval the following week. Agendas and minutes are available by following the link through the City’s website, www.mcpcity.com.
