MARQUETTE, Kan. — Water issues continue to cause problems in Marquette after a main break coming from the well field Wednesday evening. That line break had been repaired last night, however a few hours later it had ruptured again. Meanwhile the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has put Marquette under a boil water advisory until further notice.
Residents will need to boil water for one full minute prior to using it for drinking or food preparation and dispose of ice cubes and don’t use them from a household automatic icemaker, Water used for bathing doesn’t have to be boiled, however caution should be exercised to avoid ingesting that water.
The advisory was issued by KDHE because the line break and related pressure loss could result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. The city of Marquette is arranging with McPherson County Emergency Management to deliver drinking water to Marquette. Pipers Fine Foods also has bottled water while supplies last with more expected to arrive Friday.
