BARTON COUNTY, Kan. — Barton County Commissioners Tuesday approved a 2024 budget that calls for a just over 4.2 mill reduction in the property tax levy from 2023’s levy. The 2024 levy of 37.146 mills will also be just below the calculated Revenue Neutral Rate.
During the budget presentation, it was noted Barton County’s levy has declined by just over 9.1 mills since 2021. The 2024 budget was adopted following a public hearing during which no comments were made by the public, along with an authorized position listing that includes a reduction of one full time and one part time position from 2023 along with capital improvement and equipment replacement plans.
Approval was also given to cover the overrun of cost of repairs to a tractor, coming about due to increases in parts and labor from what had been originally projected.
