HUTCHINSON, Kan. — January 3rd, 2024, is the first “All Hands on Deck” professional development day in Reno County and the largest in Kansas this year. A collaborative team including members from each Reno County School District (USD 308, 309, 310, 311, 312, & 313) has worked to bring this event to Hutchinson. Over 1,100 educators and staff will be in attendance. Professional development allows educators to deepen their knowledge, develop new skills, and stay informed about advances in education The event runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 3rd, at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
Jim Knight, Ph.D., Author of “Better Conversations,” Research Associate at the University of Kansas Center for Research on Learning, and the President of the Instructional Coaching Group, is scheduled as the keynote speaker. The day’s breakout sessions include Athletics/Activities Leadership, Classroom Management, Collaboration, Collaborative Session, College & Career Readiness, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion, and Effective Teaching Strategies. Attendees will end the day in collaborative sessions divided into their peer groups. Community vendors have been invited to host booths and informational sessions throughout the day.
“By participating in ongoing professional development, educators are better equipped to meet the diverse needs of their students and create engaging and inclusive learning environments. Professional development also provides opportunities for our educators to collaborate with their peers, share best practices, and stay connected with the larger educational community,” says Sheila Berridge, Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment at Hutchinson Public Schools.
