McPHERSON, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce the most recent recipient of the Classroom Hero Award presented by Peoples Bank and Trust.
Margo Lysell teaches social studies at Smoky Valley High School. She has been teaching at Smoky Valley for about 16 years but has been a teacher for a total of 23 years.
Ms. Lysell is known to many of the students to be a supporter who makes them feel seen.
The kids are what she enjoys most about her job.
“They give me energy,” Lysell said. “That’s the part that I love.”
Lysell is from Lindsborg, and said she comes from a family of educators. She got into teaching because she wanted to be involved in helping families and kids.
She lived in Topeka for ten years and went to school at Washburn University.
Each month, Ad Astra Radio randomly selects a different educator, from community nominations, to receive the Classroom Hero Award, along with a “Thank You” gift basket. Gift items are courtesy of community partners, including Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors, Stutzman’s Greenhouse, Heartbeat Coffee, and The Foto Cowboy.
A community member who nominated Lysell, commented that Lysell is the DJ at the school dance, the cheerleader at the game and the extra pair of hands to feed students when needed.
“She embodies self-sacrifice each and every day,” They added.
The Classroom Hero Award seeks to highlight the hard work and dedication of those on the front lines in our local schools. Nominations are continually being accepted at https://www.adastraradio.com/classroom-hero.
