McPHERSON, Kan. — Ad Astra Radio is proud to announce Stevie Stockham, Lincoln Elementary School first grade teacher as the most recent recipient of the Classroom Hero Award presented by Peoples Bank and Trust.
Each month, Ad Astra Radio randomly selects a different educator, from community nominations, to receive the Classroom Hero Award, along with a “Thank You” gift basket. Gift items are courtesy of community partners, including Peoples Bank and Trust, Midway Motors and Stutzman’s Greenhouse.
Stockham started teaching at Lincoln Elementary in 2018. She first taught Kindergarten through second grade special education, and then transitioned to first grade, where she has been ever since.
“I went to elementary school here, got my first job here and student-taught here,” Stockham said.
Stockham added that she left for one year, went to Inman and then came back.
The teachers that Stockham grew up with inspired her to also pursue a career in teaching.
“I had really really great teachers growing up,” Stockham said. “I was the kid who if we didn’t have a school day, I had all my stuffed animals lined up, all my dolls lined up, and I was teaching them.”
Stockham hopes to influence her students the same way her teachers influenced her growing up and wants to be a motivator for them.
In classroom hero nominations submitted for Stockham, she was described as a great teacher who works hard to make learning fun for her students.
“My granddaughter is in her classroom and when I pick her up from school, she is bubbling over with what is happening at school,” a nominator said.
