ELLSWORTH COUNTY, Kan. — At around 2:56 p.m., Kansas Highway Patrol Troop C shared that a semi truck with a cow hauler, loaded with 76 head of cattle on the trailer was on its side on K-156 in Ellsworth county. The road remained closed as troopers and the Kansas Department of Transportation responded to the scene.
At 3:17 p.m. Troop C shared that K-156 would be closed for an extended amount of time as area farmhands helped remove cattle from the overturned trailer.
At 4:14 p.m. cattle were starting to get offloaded from the overturned trailer. Around 10 area ranchers had responded to assist with the recovery.
At 6:06 p.m., K-156 Ellsworth county updated that out of the 76 cattle on the trailer, 63-cows survived, 13-cows were dead (5 of the 13 that died had to be put down due to injuries) Roadway is still closed as of 6:06 p.m. Aug. 9. Trooper C shared that they suggest the public to use KanDrive.org for traffic updates.
