GREENSBURG, Kan. — U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D., met with municipal and cooperative electric providers to discuss the issues facing the industry as demand increases. These community leaders raised concerns regarding the Biden Administration’s new power plant rule, which would effectively close coal plants and prevent new, natural gas-powered plants from coming online, leaving electrical providers few choices for baseload generation.

“The importance of reliable energy in rural communities is a challenge I am actively working to address as your Senator,” Senator Marshall stated. “I am inspired by the proactive approach of these leaders, who are leveraging their resources to find innovative solutions and ensure the continuity of local energy sources. Their hard work is truly commendable!”

Senator Marshall also met with community leaders from Kiowa and surrounding counties this past Friday to discuss local issues and updates. These community leaders have done a tremendous job working together to find solutions to issues in our rural communities.

“In Greensburg, I was joined by community leaders who shared the unique challenges they face in their communities. Growing up and living in rural Kansas, I know that these issues are real, and I will continue to fight on the federal level- working with our local and state governments- to find solutions,” Senator Marshall said. “As a physician, I know the importance of improving access to rural health care and the unique challenges our rural counties face due to inflation, sky-high interest rates, fentanyl trafficking, and beyond.”
