McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The Avila University Eagles and the McPherson College Bulldogs braved the windy conditions Saturday (Apr. 8) with the Eagles coming away with a pair of victories at Bulldog Park.
GAME ONE – Avila 9, McPherson 1
The Eagles got off to a hot start in game one, scoring six runs in the top of the first inning, including a grand slam by Hallie Campbell.
Rowdy New put the Bulldogs on the board in the third with a single to right field, advancing Shey Storesund to third, before scoring on an error by the Eagles’ right fielder.
But from there the Eagles scored two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to pick up the run-rule victory.
The Bulldogs finished with just two hits, both coming from New. Samantha Hollingsworth threw six innings, striking out six batters.

GAME TWO – Avila 8, McPherson 2
In the nightcap, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Montana Stangel.
Again New put the Bulldogs on the board, this time scoring on an error by the Avila catcher.
But from there, the Eagles rattled off seven unanswered runs over the next six innings, scoring two in each of the second, third, and fifth innings and one in the seventh.
The Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring once when New grounded out to the short stop allowing Kaylee Farnsworth to score, but that would be all that the Bulldogs could muster.
New finished 3-for-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Tatyana Alvarado finished with two hits. Ashanti Thompson got the start for the Bulldogs and threw 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Carissa Peters came on in relief and had two strikeouts, while allowing just two hits and one run in 2.2 innings of work.
The Bulldogs hit the road for a trip to Salina Tuesday (Apr. 9) for a showdown against Kansas Wesleyan. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
