Girls: Hillsboro 55 – Lyons 16

Boys: Hillsboro 59 – Lyons 32

Although having played last night and Tuesday, the Hillsboro Trojans showed no signs of fatigue playing for the third time this week as the Trojans easily dispatched the Lyons Lions getting the sweep with a 55- 16 win for the girls and 59-32 victory for the boys. Both teams used the same formula to achieve their victories: use a smothering 1-2-2 half-court trap press to create turnovers, turnovers lead to easy points, open a lead in the second quarter, expand it in the 3rd quarter, and finish strong with balanced scoring to get the win. Recapping the girl’s game, Hillsboro led at the break 34-8 and win 55-16. Kingzley Ratlaff of Hillsboro led all scorers with 13 points followed by Amyah Werth and Anslee Brewer each with 11 points. Kierah Davis led Lyons with 5 points.

In the boy’s game, it was a repeat performance as the Trojans jumped to a 15-5 lead partway through the first period. They led at halftime 33-18. After building the lead to 51-23, Hillsboro finished 59-32 to get the win. It was balanced scoring again for the Hillsboro boys as they got a game high 15 from Lincoln Wichert, Seth Driggers had 12, and Easton Shahan finished with 11 points. Tegan Link and Xavier each had 6 points for Lyons.

Girls: Marion 27, Elyria Christian 24

Boys: Elyria Christian 61 – Marion 18

Both teams found offense hard to come by, especially in the second half when the teams combined for 15 points. Grace Hett and Calleigh Soyez hit crucial second-half 3-pointers for Marion, which avenged a 50-48 loss earlier this season to Elyria. Kenna Wesner led Marion with 14 points, including 12 in the first half, while Grace Prescott’s 11 points paced Elyria. Marion improved to 8-11 with the win, while Elyria fell to 13-7. It was the 14th time this season Elyria allowed less than 30 points in a game.

Elyria Christian boys 61, Marion 18 – Leading by 12 as the second-quarter clock expired, Elyria Christian’s Gavin Robertson swished a 3-pointer and drew a foul. He completed the four-point play, giving the Eagles a 27-11 halftime lead and all the momentum. Elyria then outscored Marion 27-3 in the third quarter en-route to its 19th straight win.

Ty Romero poured in 21 points, including 14 in the third quarter. He threw down three dunks and also swished a 3-pointer. Alex Robertson added 14 points, and he sank four 3-pointers. Andrew Huxman scored 12 points for Elyria, which ends the regular season 19-1. Marion fell to 8-11.

Girls: Trinity Catholic 53 – Sedgwick 48

Boys: Sedgwick 45 – Trinity Catholic 35

While both Sedgwick and Trinity Catholic came into this game with 2-16 records, this game was still very important for Sub-State seeding purposes as both teams will be playing at the 2A Sub-State in Sedgwick. It was a good battle throughout with the Celtics taking a 20-19 lead into halftime. Sedgwick’s Logan Budde would hit her 3rd three with 3 minutes to go to put the Sedgwick Cardinals up 46-44, but Trinity’s Alex Suter-Tan would answer with a three and the Celtics would never lose the lead after that. Trinity was led by season highs of 21 pts from freshman guard Alex Suter-Tan and 17 pts from forward Mattie Galiher. Sedgwick would get double figures from Logan Stucky with 10 and Budde with 14.

In the men’s game it was a tale of two halves. Trinity Catholic would jump right out of the gates and get out to a 18-5 lead after one quarter, as Max Ryan would hit his first three 3-pt attempts and the Celtics would hold on to a 12-point lead at halftime 29-17. In the second half though, all the momentum would swing to Sedgwick. Their defense held Trinity scoreless in the 3rd quarter and the Celtics wouldn’t get their first point in the second half until around the 4-minute mark in the 4th. Sedgwick’s Jackson Scarlett and Jeff Nold would take over inside and three-point baskets by Corey Crumrine and Micah Hansen would give Sedgwick the lead and they were able to hang on 45-35. Sedgwick outscored Trinity 28-6 in the second half. Scarlett would finish with 16, Crumrine 14 and Nold added 11. Trinity would get 9 from Max Ryan, but he was held scoreless in the second half, while Brennan Leighton added 6. The loss for the Celtics eliminated the chance for the men’s team to host a 1st round Sub-State game.
