BUHLER, Kan. – Augusta was able to keep Buhler at arms length most of the night. Down 11 at the start of the fourth quarter, Buhler boys basketball chipped away to earn a hard-fought 60-59 win Friday night in front of a packed home crowd.
That 11-point lead was Augusta’s largest with just over seven minutes to go in the game. Buhler used a 22-10 run to finish and even the season series with the O’s.
The final few seconds played out in dramatic fashion. Isaiah Heredia’s corner three tied the game at 58 with roughly 30 seconds remaining. Heredia collected a team-high 14 points, going four of five from the 3-point line. Augusta’s Landon Riggs then drew a foul on Heredia with the clock showing 28 seconds. Riggs went one of two at the charity stripe to give his team a 59-58 lead.
Following a timeout with just six ticks left, Buhler put the ball in the hands of Jacob Miller, who drove to the bucket and earned his own trip to the free-throw line. He calmly hit both shots, earning the Crusaders a one-point win. Miller went six of eight from the line for the game and finished with 12 points.
Jeffery Neill added 13 points and Jared Miller 10 points.
Buhler girls 50, Augusta 25 – Buhler girls basketball extended its win streak to five games, leading from start to finish against Augusta.
The Crusaders broke the game open on a 12-0 run in the second quarter. A Faith Miller three with the clock expiring made the halftime score 34-12. The lead then ballooned to 32 in the second half.
Eight crusaders contributed to the final score, including a game-high 11 points from Natalya Krafels. Krafels also hauled in 10 rebounds.
Gracie Oard contributed 10 points and Ella Voss finished with seven points and seven steals.
Homecoming – It was a memorable night too for Eli Biggs and Makyla Little, who were named homecoming king and queen between games.
