McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson Hospital announces that current president and CEO, Lewis Newberry, has made the decision to retire, effective Friday, February 9.

Newberry shared that retirement is something that has been on his mind for months now, and stated “when you start thinking about retiring, you already have”. The hospital Board of Trustees thanks Lew for two great years of service, the first 7 months as CFO and the remaining time as CEO. He has provided tremendous leadership throughout this period and will be greatly missed.

The Board also announces the naming of Tanner Wealand, as interim president, and CEO. Board of Trustees president Chet Lang said, “Tanner has done a tremendous job as our CFO since joining our McPherson Hospital team and is excited for the opportunity to continue moving the hospital forward.” Lang also stated, “I would like to thank and acknowledge Charity Clark (COO) for her commitment to McPherson Hospital! I have a lot of confidence in Tanner and Charity leading our organization and look forward to our continued success!”

The Hospital Board is currently working through options to find a full-time CEO.

Wealand will begin serving in this role, effective immediately.
