Fourth-Ranked Eagles Pull Away from Bulldogs

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (MacBulldogs.com) — The fourth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles used a 10-0 burst midway through the first half Wednesday (Jan. 24) to grab control to knock off the McPherson College Bulldogs 62-52 inside the Mueller Sports Center in Bartlesville, Okla.

Curtis Rose led the Bulldogs (13-5, 8-4 KCAC) with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals. Quinn Collins added ten points and eight rebounds.

The Bulldogs had their worst offensive night of the season, shooting 30.9 percent and scoring a season low 52 points.  MC was just 7-for-33 from beyond the arc.

An and-one by Jerome Mabry with ten minutes remaining in the first half pulled the Bulldogs within 14-12, but that’s when the Eagles showed why they were ranked fourth in the country.  The Bulldogs trailed 32-23 at halftime

Five quick points to open the second half trimmed the deficit to 34-28, but the Eagles answered with four straight of their own. From there, the closest the Bulldogs would come was 51-44 with 7:14 left to play.

DJ Talton Jr. led the Eagles (18-1, 12-1 KCAC) with 20 points and seven steals. Jaden Lietzke added 14 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Dylan Phillip finished with ten points.

The Bulldogs outrebounded OKWU 43-35 with a 15-5 advantage on the offensive end, but finished with 15 turnovers. The Eagles scored 19 points off turnovers.

MC will be remain on the road Saturday (Jan. 27) when they travel to North Newton, Kan. to take on Bethel College. The Bulldogs took the first matchup of the season 61-57 in McPherson.
