BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs comeback bid fell short Wednesday (Jan. 24) falling to the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles 58-55 in Bartlesville, Okla.
The Bulldogs fell behind 19-9 after the first quarter before trailing 32-25 at halftime. Joze’ Baker scored seven of her 11 points in the first half to keep the Bulldogs within striking distance.
MC quickly erased the lead on the heels of a 7-0 burst that included five points by Chloe Clevenger to open the third quarter, tying the game at 32-32. Oklahoma Wesleyan held a 44-43 lead after three quarters.
Neither team was able to create separation in the third quarter. A free throw by Madelyn Hankins put the Bulldogs on top 55-54 with two minutes to play, but back-to-back baskets by Zariah Tillman put the Eagles on top late.
The Bulldogs had one last chance, but a three by Clevenger came up short.
Four Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Hankins with 14. Clevenger and Gillian Rodgers each added 12 points, and Baker finished with 11 points.
The Bulldogs shot 44.0 percent from the field, but finished with 26 turnovers.
Haley Meely led the Eagles in the scoring column, finishing with 18 points, while Tillman scored 16 points and Jaelin Glass added 10 points.
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday (Jan. 27) when they travel to North Newton, Kan. to take on Bethel College. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
