McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs never trailed Saturday night (Jan. 20), knocking off the Sterling College Warriors 78-68 inside the Sport Center. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five games.
Five Bulldogs scored in double figures led by Curtis Rose with 20 points. Rose also finished with three assists and three steals. Collin Storr added 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds to go with two blocks and a pair of steals. Owen Braxmeyer, Quinn Collins, and Jamil Hardaway each scored 11 points.
The Bulldogs got off to a hot start from the tipoff, scoring the game’s first 11 points less than three minutes into the contest. MC held expanded that lead to 44-30 at the break.
The Bulldogs were efficient in the opening frame, shooting 47.2 percent from the field, including finishing 8-for-17 from beyond the arc. MC also took care of the basketball, turning it over just twice in the first half.
A steal and a layup by Curtis Rose pushed the lead to 16 early in the second half, but the Warriors clawed their way back to trim the lead to 62-58 with 8:51 remaining. From there, the Bulldogs kept Sterling at bay to secure their 13th win of the season, matching last year’s total.
Mooch Austin led the Warriors with 19 points, while Elias Ngoga added 14 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Allen tacked on 11 points.
The Bulldogs go on the road Wednesday (Jan. 24) for a huge KCAC matchup against fourth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan. MC will remain on the road Saturday (Jan. 27) when they travel to North Newton, Kan. to take on Bethel.
