WINFIELD, Kan. – Behind a solid team effort, McPherson tennis placed second at 4A State this past weekend in Winfield. The Bullpups’ 28 points slotted them just ahead of Bishop Miege in the final standings. Independence won the team title.

After dropping their second-round matches, singles teammates Kyndall Sandbo and Maryn Sandbo battled through the backside of the bracket on day two to eventually meet in the ninth-place match, with Kyndall coming out on top, 8-6.

Kyndall Sandbo finishes her Bullpup career as a two-time state medalist.

In doubles, Alexandria Rodriguez and Avery Unruh also worked the backside to advance to day two, where they eventually lost to Carly Kurt and Kate Pedrotti of Bishop Miege, 8-4, in the 11th-place match.

After earning a first-round bye, Riggs Kuhn and Brodie Kuhn went 3-0 to claim a spot in the championship match. The duo fought in the second set before eventually falling, 6-1, 6-4, to Topeka-Hayden’s Lauren Sandstrom and Emily Sheetz.

Riggs Kuhn hangs up her high school racket as a three-time state medalist and three-time regional champion.
