McPherson Sports Roundup: Strong Showing by Volleyball Leads to Tuesday Sweep

TOWANDA, Kan. – The McPherson Volleyball team was in action on Tuesday at the Circle Triangular in Towanda. The Bullpups went 2-0 against Circle and Buhler. The Pups avenged an earlier season loss by the second-ranked T-Birds.

Brooke Doile led the team in Kills and digs at 16 a piece, while Ava Romero led the team in Aces with 3, Addison Chapman led the team in blocks and Alex Romero finished with 41 Assists. The Bullpups’ next meet is Tuesday, October 3 at the Clearwater Triangular.

“It was a great team effort, outstanding hustle,” said Head Coach Christy Doile. “Coming off a tough weekend, this was the response every coach and team wants to have.”

Soccer

The Boys Soccer team was also in Action on Tuesday at McPherson High School against Buhler. After tying the game at 2 in the 72nd minute, the Bullpups fell to the Crusaders 3-2 in Overtime following a breakaway score by Buhler’s Dawsyn Valdois in the 82nd Minute. Hunger Mendez led the team in goals with 2 while Hayden Hoxie finished with 1 Assist.

Golf

McPherson Girls Golf Competed at Andale on Monday, finishing 2nd with a total team score of 368. Brodie Kuhn and Resse Elliott led the team individually with scores of 84 and 82 respectively.

“The conditions were tough,” said head coach Treg Fawl. “I am proud of the way we battled, we are playing consistently and building momentum leading into the postseason.”

Tennis

The McPherson Middle School Girls Tennis team competed at Home on Tuesday, Finishing 1st out of five schools. Quinn Liebl and Audra Sandbo placed 1st and 2nd in singles action both at 2-0, while Kamryn Prescott and Ellie Frye wound up 3rd and Azul Palacios rounded out the Bullpup squad in 4th. Top finishers in doubles included Lleyton Kuhn and Mayson Weins in #1 doubles, while Maddie Ekholm and Emily Reno won #2 doubles and Hayden Eveland and Nirmtha PremAnanth won #3 doubles.

Head Coach Paul Reichenberger remarked, “What a great day for tennis, all around, the girls played really well.”
