LAWRENCE, Kan.Labaron Philonthe No. 27 overall recruit in the 2024 class, has committed to Kansas after a weekend visit to Lawrence. The 6-foot-4, 170-pound point guard from Alabama — who is attending Branson (Mo.) Link Academy for his senior season — chose the Jayhawks over Alabama, Ole Miss and Cincinnati.

“The visit was good,” he said after his visit. “Coach (BillSelf, coach (JeremyCase and the rest of the staff did a great job showing me around. I had a good time talking to them.”

Playing with Team Thad in the Nike EYBL Circuit duing spring and summer, Philon averaged 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists a game while adding 1.8 steals a game, shooting 51.5% from the field and 31.4% from 3.

“Labaron brings everything you need in a a point guard,” said Team Thad director and coach Norton Hurd IV. “I feel like he is the best point guard in the country, as far as having a balanced attack on scoring for himself and others. He’s a leader on and off the court, and he competes on both ends of the court.”

Philon is the second commitment for Self in his 2024 class, joining five-star big man Flory Bidunga and making for the 247Sports Composite Team Rankings‘ No. 11 overall class.

Philon makes for a terrific fit with the Jayhawks program with his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.

He’s a tough and competitive two-way point guard who can create for others, score from all three levels and is an impact on-ball defender.
