LINDSBORG, KAN. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Football team played host to the University of Saint Mary Spires in a KCAC interdivisional matchup.

BOX SCORE

Things did not start off very well for the Swedes as the Spires were able to score points on their first 5 drives of the games while Bethany couldn’t get much going at all. The Swedes found themselves down 30-0 by the end of the first quarter.

In the second period, Bethany would start to find holes in the Saint Mary defense as Zamarion Spencer would bust loose for a 45-yard gain. Following three personal fouls, Spencer would find the endzone to put the Swedes on the board. Bethany would be unsuccessful on the PAT as they would go for 2 making the score 30-6. The Spires would capitalize on a turnover-on-downs with a 9-yard touchdown pass, but it would take the Swedes just 59 seconds to answer back and Landry Shields would find Michael Young for a 45-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 25 before the half. Saint Mary would lead 37-12 going into the break.

Bethany would start the second half with the ball, but would fail to convert a fourth down deep in Saint Mary territory. The Swedes defense would force a punt, but the offense would then throw an interception in the endzone. The defense would force the Spire offense to punt again, but this time, the Bethany offense would cash in. They would go on an 8-play, 86-yard drive capped off with Josiah Hardrick rushing for a touchdown with no time left in the third quarter. The Spire would score 21-unanswered points in the fourth period to seal this on 57-18.
