Salthawk Sports Roundup: Rodriguez, Burlie Lead Salthawk Golfers in Salina

SALINA, Kan. – The Hutchinson High girls golf team came in sixth place at the 12-team Salina Invitational on Monday. The tournament was 18 holes, and the Salthawks carded a 400.

Lily Rodriguez and Ava Burlie led the Salthawks with a 99, tying them for 29th place.

Lydia Patterson and Brynn Hall were right behind in 31st place with 101s. Maddi Rayl shot a 107, and Jordan Pratt carded a 143.

The Salthawks will be back in action Thursday at Auburn Hills in Wichita.

 

Girls tennis – The Salthawks traveled to McPherson on Tuesday to play at the Doug Gayer Classic, a tournament that places all singles entries into one bracket, and all doubles entires into one bracket.

Hutchinson came in eighth place in the 11-team event with 36 points.

Ayla Booe and Ellie Foos teamed up and finished in third place in doubles. Their semifinal loss was just by an 8-6 score. Addison Lewis and Rylee Miller came in 14th place, going 2-2.

In singles, Payzlee Regier came in 15th place, going 2-2. Mckenzie Griffin finished 19th, winning three of her five matches.

The Salthawks will return to action Monday at Eisenhower.

 

Soccer – The Salthawks continued their trend of alternating wins and losses Tuesday with a thrilling 5-4 overtime victory over Andover at the Salthawk Sports Complex. David Reyna netted the winning goal with a penalty kick.

The previous game was at Andover Central, which Hutch lost 3-0.

The Salthawks are now 4-4 and will take Thursday off before hosting Maize on Tuesday.

 

Cross country – Hutchinson competed Saturday in Wichita. The boys finished 11th.

Leading the way was Lalo Rodriguez, who came in 55th in a time of 18 minutes, 53.5 seconds.

Also competing for the Salthawks, and their times, were Ethan Hancock (19:36.6), Winston Johnson (19:58.8), Jordon Graham (20:01.3), Rylan Partlow (20:20.5), and Michael Eddington (22:09.5).

Two girls participated, which means the Salthawks were not eligible for team placement. Leading the way was Avery Tecklenberg (23:01.9), and she was joined by Victoria Parra (24:38.0).

 

Volleyball – The Salthawks played at a tournament in Maize, where they lost the four matches they played.

Hutchinson lost to Eisenhower in three sets 17-25, 25-15, 25-15, and Newton 25-17, 18-25, 25-18. The Salthawks were also swept in two sets by Kapaun Mount Carmel 25-18, 25-14 and Wichita Northwest 25-23, 25-20.

The Salthawks are now 4-11 and play Great Bend on Thursday at the Salthawk Activity Center.
