WICHITA, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – Junior quarterback Tristan Szabo has been named the KCAC Offensive Player of the Week following a career night in the 51-17 win over Tabor College, the league announced Monday (Aug. 28).
“Tristan operated at a very high level for three quarters of football,” head coach Jeremiah Fiscus said. “He led his guys, made the appropriate adjustments, and really performed well.”
Szabo, a native of Sparks, Nev., threw for a career-high 405 yards and three touchdowns and was also effective in the running game, finishing with another career-best 62 rushing yards and one score.
His first touchdown came midway through the second quarter, finding Alex Hill over the middle, who took it 36 yards for the score. Szabo made it a 21-10 lead late in the half with a 39-yard scamper.
Szabo’s final two touchdowns were a pair of 20-yard passes to Tyson Bochert and Traven Lewis-Johnson, both coming in the fourth quarter.
Through one week, Szabo ranks third in the NAIA in passing yards, which leads the KCAC.
The Bulldogs are back in action on Saturday (Sep. 2), traveling to Sterling College. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
