Larned State Correctional Officer Arrested for Bringing Quantities of Methamphetamines Into Facility

LARNED, Kan. — A correctional officer at Larned State Correctional Facility has been charged with bringing distribution quantities of methamphetamine into the facility.

Jessie Smith II appeared in Pawnee County District Court this morning to be read formal charges: 1. Possession of 63.0 Grams of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute. 2. Traffic in Contraband in a Correctional Facility by an Employee.

Pawnee County Attorney Douglas McNett said the charges are alleged to have occurred on Aug. 13, 2023 at the facility.

Smith was arrested without incident following an internal investigation by the Kansas Department of Corrections.

After making his first appearance before Pawnee County Magistrate Judge Julie Cowell, Smith was released on a supervised bond. A preliminary hearing in the case has been set for August 31st.
