The McPherson, Moundridge, Marquette, and Canton libraries are competing against each other in a battle of spelling on Aug. 25. Each public library participating will bring their three best spellers from their communities to compete in an adult spelling bee at the Hub Brick Oven and Brewery in Moundridge from 5 to 9 p.m.
The winner of the competition will not only receive bragging rights as best speller, but will also take home a percentage of sales that evening for their library. Everyone is welcome to come and cheer on their favorite library/speller. Immediately following the spelling bee, Alex Jordan is set to perform from 7 to 9 p.m. You must be 18 + to participate in both your community spelling bee and the final spelling bee. You also have to be from the community you are entering in. This means your address must be the name of the town you are representing.
Before the final competition, the finalists have to be decided. The community adult spelling bee for McPherson Public Library will be at Three Rings Brewery Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. and La Jefa Mexicana will be catering at the Three Rings tap house.
The Marquette Community Library Spelling Bee will be at the Smoky Valley Distillery on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. The top three finalists will compete in the County spelling bee.
The Moundridge Community Spelling Bee will be on the 18th from 6-8 p.m. and then the final three will challenge the other finalists in the county on Aug. 25.
