McPHERSON, Kan. — McPherson County Public Works had to halt their overlay projects for this year after running out of aggregate materials. Public Works Director Tom Kramer said the current supplier’s capacity to haul the needed ¾ inch road is less than what they use in a day. McPherson County Commissioners authorized a purchase of asphalt aggregate from APAC on July 31. While the overlay project is on delay, crews have begun work on chip seal projects for this year, for which they have most of the material needed. Kramer said the current overlay project on Arapaho Road is a little over halfway complete.
Commissioners also approved the purchase of a new power tire changer and balancer for the Public Works Shop. The bid from Truck Center Company of just over 7300 dollars (7344.64) was the lowest of three received, and will allow them to mount and dismount their own tires in the shop saving time and money.
Fees for nearly every planning and zoning application in McPherson County will be going up as of Sept 1. McPherson County Commissioners approved a resolution setting new fees for things ranging from zoning permits and amendments to new water well and wastewater charges, Planning and Zoning Administrator Jon Kinsey said many of these rates have not been changed since 2009, and the increases will be in line with what is currently charged by surrounding counties.
During Monday’s meeting McPherson County Commissioners appointed Mary Bailey treasurer of Castle Township on the recommendation of the other two board members to fill the position vacated by Randall Kaufman. The Commission also approved reappointment of David E. Schmidt as the county’s Representative on the McPherson Area Solid Waste Utility Board.
