LINDSBORG, Kan. – The City of Lindsborg formally dedicated the community’s new bike share program Friday with a ribbon cutting at the Fredrickson Family Fitness Park. The new program is a joint project of several entities including the city, Bethany College, Lindsborg Community Hospital and Smoky Valley USD 400, in partnership with Occupational Center of Central Kansas (OCCK).
Michelle Griffon with Mobility Management, one of six area coordinators in Kansas, said the project started some years ago when OCCK began a bike share program in Salina. From there the bike-sharing program expanded to several area cities in north central Kansas. Lindsborg is the 9th community OCCK is involved with.
Other speakers during the dedication included Lindsborg Mayor Clark Schultz and Community Development Coordinator Jordan Jerkovich, who did a lot of the behind-the-scenes work to make the program for Lindsborg a reality, along with many other city employees.
Funding for the program was provided in part by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Kansas, with additional support provided by the City of Lindsborg’s ARPA funds. Bike rental stations have been set up along the Valkommen Trail near Bethany College, at Lindsborg City Hall, and at Fredrickson Family Fitness Center.
The bikes will be for rent, either by the hour or with a $30 annual pass (discounted annual pass for students 18 yrs.+). Anyone can rent a bike easily through the Movatic smartphone app. All proceeds will benefit the children and adults who receive disability services through OCCK.
