HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Runs came in every inning except the ninth, in Monday’s high-scoring affair, as the Hutchinson Monarchs played host to the Derby Twins for a beautiful evening at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Twins would get on the board early with the help of an error, the Monarchs would scrape an unearned run as an errant pickoff attempt would move Blake Bradford from first to third, and he would score on a single to left from Ryan Franden.

Derby answered with one in the top of the innings, the Monarchs were helped with two more runs, which came off of errors in the bottom of the second, but Hutchinson would be shutout for the next three innings,

A 2-run home run in the fourth would break a 3-3 tie, giving Derby the lead before they added another run in the fifth, quickly taking a 6-3 lead. The Twins were held scoreless for the first time in the game in the sixth, and the Monarchs were able to tie the game as Blake Bradford would double and Hogan Shelby and Ryan Franden would both drive in runs with a single to make it 6-6.

The Twins would answer with three of their own, before Hutch’s Will Edmunson highlighted a four-run seventh-inning with a two out single, which brought home Brett Black and Hogan Shelby.

Carson Cornelius was stellar in relief, striking out five of the six batters, and the Monarchs would tack on a pair of insurance runs in the eighth to defeat the Twins 12-9.

Following the win, the Monarchs move to 2-2 on the season, and the two will meet again Tuesday, at Panther Field in Derby. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
