WICHITA, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — McPherson College football standout Jonathan White has been named a finalist for the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission (GWASC) College Male Athlete of the Year.

White led the nation in rushing yards per game (159.7) and broke the single-season school record with 1,437 rushing yards. He also set a new school record with 307 rushing yards in the season finale against Sterling College, a performance that earned him NAIA Offensive Player of the Week. White rushed for 12 touchdowns in 2022, the most by a Bulldog in a season since 2011.

Jonathan White is a tremendous athlete and teammate,” head football coach Jeremiah Fiscus said. “He is a really great person that is deserving of all the accolades he has received. He would represent the GWASC in a very positive light as an award recipient.”

The Quitman, Ga. native was the KCAC Player of the Year and earned spots on the AP NAIA Football All-America first team and the AFCA NAIA Football All-America first team. He was also a unanimous first-team All-KCAC selection. Additionally, White was invited to the Baltimore Ravens rookie mini-camp last month.

The College Male Athlete of the Year recognition was first awarded in 1998 and has since been given to future professional athletes such as Cincinnati Bengals running back Rudi Johnson, current Bengals head coach Zac Taylor, and former Wichita State basketball star Ron Baker.

In his two-year career at McPherson, White rushed for 2,058 yards and 22 touchdowns and was effective in the passing game, catching 61 passes for 550 yards and one score.

The 2023 GWASC banquet is scheduled for June 29 at the Drury Plaza Hotel Broadview in downtown Wichita, Kan. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m., with the banquet coming at 6:30 p.m. Tickets for the event can be purchased HERE.
