LARNED, Kan. – The City of Larned’s compost site will remain closed to the public. At the request of Councilman Josh Riedel, the Council Monday revisited the closure city’s compost site early this year.

Initially established for park and other departments to take grass clippings, residents requested they be able to take clippings to the site so they would not have to go to the Pawnee County Landfill. As a result, the City began to see items such as branches, lumber, cement chunks, and other trash in the piles. The Recycling Center has the same issue.

It was noted that since the City has closed its compost site to the public, Pawnee County has extended landfill hours including being open on Saturday.
