MCPHERSON, Kan. – Voters in McPherson USD 418 narrowly rejected an $88.5 million bond issue during Tuesday’s special election. Unofficial results from the McPherson County Clerk’s Office show 1,486 votes against the proposal to 1,300 votes in favor, an approximately 53-47 percent margin.

The bond issue would have funded the construction of a new academic wing at McPherson High School along with other projects around the district. The bond failed to pass in any of the five polling locations.

McPherson County Clerk Hollie Melroy said there were 38 provisional ballots cast with five mailed-in ballots still to be counted. 418 Superintendent Shiloh Vincent told Ad Astra News last night that the district would be releasing a statement on the outcome of the election Wednesday.

Just over 28 percent of registered voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election.
