WINFIELD, Kan. (bluedragonsports.com) – For the second-straight meet, Hutchinson Community College sophomore thrower Lushous Davis posted a PR and freshman Madelyn Hernandez won two events to lead the Blue Dragon women’s track and field team at the Mike Kirkland/Southwestern Relays at Jantz Stadium.
Davis earned her first career collegiate victory in the women’s hammer and she placed in the Top 8 in three events.
Davis improved her national qualifying mark in the hammer by winning the Southwester Relays with a throw of 156 feet, 6 inches (47.20 meters). That was the second-best hammer throw in Blue Dragon women’s team history.
Davis also finished fifth in the discus at 124-9 (38.03m) and was eighth in the shot put at 35-1 (10.69).
Hernandez won both the 100-meter hurdles and high jump events for the second-straight week. Hernandez won the 100 hurdles at Southwestern with a time of 15.25 seconds. She won the high jump after clearing 5-3 1/2 (1.60m).
Freshman Liberty Limon had two runner-up performances at Southwestern. He was second in the high jump after clearing 5-1 (1.55 m) and was second in the triple jump with a PR performance of 34-10 1/2 (10.63m).
Freshman Emme Watkins posted two PRs on Saturday. Watkins placed third in the triple jump after a top jump of 32-4 3/4 (9.87m) and was seventh in the long jump at 14-4 (4.37m).
Three Blue Dragon pole vaulters placed in the top five. All-American Violet Martinez as third after clearing 10 feet (3.05m). Alivia Noll was fourth at 9-6 (2.90m) and All-American Kiana Brown was fifth at 9-6 (2.90m).
Sophomore Keneah Romney placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:09.92.
Freshman Chanelle Chandler placed sixth in the discus at 124-9 (38.03m).
Hayleigh Burke was seventh in the javelin at 89 feet (27.12m).
The Blue Dragons will compete in the Region VI Outdoor Championships next Thursday through Saturday at Coffeyville.
