MCPHERSON, Kan. – Friday has been proclaimed as Arbor Day in McPherson.
During the presentation of the proclamation by Mayor Tom Brown at Tuesday’s McPherson City Commission meeting, Director of Public Lands and Facilities Wayne Burns recognized Eisenhower Elementary School 5th grader Noelle Schmidt for her winning poster in the local Arbor Day Poster Contest.
Noelle has also been recognized by the Kansas Forest Service as the Southeast Kansas District winner, one of four regional winners out of 670 entries across Kansas.
McPherson’s annual Arbor Day celebration will be held Friday Morning at 10 at Lakeside Park, during which Noelle and her classmates will participate in tree planting and other activities.
