HILLSBORO, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — The McPherson College Bulldogs won the second game of the final regular season doubleheader Tuesday (Apr. 25) to salvage the split against the Tabor College Bluejays in Hillsboro, Kan.

The Bulldogs got off to a hot start with a pair of runs in the top of the first, but the Bluejays answered in the next half-inning with four runs on four hits, including a pair of doubles.

McPherson trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the third, then Kaitlyn Sarsfield evened the score with an RBI triple to left-center field in the sixth, scoring Alyvia Quintana.

Quintana joined the party with an RBI triple of her own in the top of the seventh, bringing Amber Wood and Mackenzie Egan home to give the Bulldogs the lead. Quintana pushed the lead to 7-4, scoring on a wild pitch.

The Bluejays scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, then had runners on the corners with one out, but Jordyn Johnson struck out the next two batters to seal the victory.

Johnson finished with six strikeouts while allowing nine hits. Quintana finished the second half of the doubleheader, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

In the opener, the Bluejays took advantage of their opportunities in the early going, scoring three runs in the first inning and four more in the second. Amanda Ambrosy put the Bulldogs on the board in the second with an RBI triple to bring Wood around to score.

The Bulldogs hold a one-game lead over Tabor and York for seventh place in the KCAC standings, with Tabor traveling to York on Thursday (Apr. 27).
