ABILENE, Kan. – On Friday, the McPherson High Track and Field team competed against eight other schools. The Girls were able to put together some great marks and times to claim first place, while the boys would have a couple strong performances as they continue to improve.
A handful of girls brought home multiple gold medals on Friday; Arihana Koehn won the 100 and 300 Hurdles, while Jayla McLeod won the 100m and 200m and was part of the 4×1 team of Addison Chapman, Andi Buschbom and Alexa Casebeer that claimed first, running their best time since last season at the state track. Izabel Backhus rotated with Casebeer, on the 4×400 relay that also finished first. Bushbom would also take first in the long jump. Other notable finishes from the MHS girls included; Chloe Clevenger would take 3rd in the 800m run, and Mallory Holmes was second in the triple jump.
The boys had a couple of impressive performances, as Javyn Alexander won the the long jump with a leap of 21’- 9.5, while Kreighton Kanitz would take fifth. Cory Muehler took 4th in the 300 hurdles, while Asa Keough would take 5th in the 110 hurdles. Freshman, Caleb Muehler brought home 5th in the 1600 with a PR mile time of 4:33.
The boys 4×1 team of Javyn Alexander, Gunner Schumacher, Jayce Schriner, and Kaden Harold highlighted the boys’ relays with a second place finish. The 4×800 team of Roman Mai, Hunter Mendez, Kayden Friesen, and Caleb Muehler would take 3rd.
On Thursday, the MHS Track and Field team will host an invitational at McPherson High School. Events are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
